Women’s Soccer Knocks Off Kean for Key Road Win

Pacers’ defense holds for shutout win

Box Score Union, N.J. - Early goals from Brooke Longstreet and Antonella Doglio propelled Marywood's women's soccer team to a key 2-0 road win over Kean University Wednesday evening in Union, New Jersey.

After pressuring early with the wind at their backs, Marywood drew a foul on the right touchline just over seven minutes into the game. Brooke Longstreet sent a perfectly played cross to the goal line, where pressure from the Pacers' attacking duo of Elizabeth Levine and Josephine Sorce forced the ball to deflect in off a defender. Since neither Levine nor Sorce touched the ball, and since it was likely to go in anyway with the defender having no chance to clear it, Longstreet was credited with the tally.

In the 15th minute, Victoria Tzitzis beat a defender down the left flank and sent a cross in from the left end line, finding a charging Doglio on the back post as the Pacers doubled their lead.

Marywood (3-3) held firm the rest of the half, despite trailing the Cougars in shots (8-7) in the first stanza.

Despite high pressure from numerous attacking players, Marywood's defense did not break in the second half, securing the Pacers first clean sheet of the year. Marywood held a 9-5 lead in shots in the second half, which included some close strikes off the feet of Longstreet and Riley Mulherin.

Rebekah Becker made saves on all six shots on goal she faced. Marywood held a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal for the game, while Kean (3-3-1) held a slim 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Marywood hosts Alvernia University Saturday at 3:00 pm.
