Sharkey to Captain Eastern Pennsylvania at Women's Sevens National Cup

Wilmington, Del. — Marywood University senior Ciara Sharkey will serve as team captain of the Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union all-star team at the Women's Sevens National Cup. Sharkey will play scrum-half for Eastern Pennsylvania in the Small College Conference tournament.

National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) formed 16 Conference All Star Teams that will compete for the Women's Sevens National Cup in Houston. The tournament takes place on Jan. 22-23 at the Houston Sabercats' facility.

"It is a well-deserved honor for Sharkey," said Marywood women's rugby head coach Woodrow Cole. "She is one of the hardest working ruggers that I have had the pleasure of meeting."

The all-star tournament has expanded significantly since it was last played in 2020 and now includes Division I and Small College players. Over 200 players, representing over 65 schools, were selected based on tryouts and coach nominations.

NCR will live stream most matches via its YouTube channel and other social media sites.

The All Stars tournament is used as a platform for selection to the NCR Women's Select Sevens Program. It recently competed in the 2021 Falcon Sevens Tournament hosted by the American Rugby Pro Training Center.
