Pacers Take Down Cyclones for First Atlantic East Victory

Hackettstown, N.J. — Marywood University ended a four-game losing streak for its first Atlantic East Conference women's basketball victory of the season. The Pacers toppled Centenary University 52-42 on the road.

Making her first collegiate start, Olivia Ciullo was a rebound shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. She went 6 of 12 from the field and scored all but two of her points in the first half.

Ciullo was one of three Marywood players in double figures. Savannah Purdy totaled 13 points, and Jade Rolon came off the bench to add 10 points.

The Pacers (6-7, 1-2 AEC) record their fifth straight victory against the Cyclones. Marywood holds an 18-6 record against Centenary since the 2007-08 season.

Centenary (7-6, 0-4 AEC) opened the second half by cutting the Pacers' lead down to five. Carmen Escano made a free-throw to put the Cyclones within two possessions (27-22) with 7:04 remaining in the third quarter. Marywood responded on a 15-2 run over the next 6:30. Marywood made half of its attempts in the third quarter, and Kilie Wyers jumper left the Pacers with a 42-24 advantage.

Cold shooting by Marywood in the fourth quarter allowed the Cyclones to move within eight (50-42) on another Escano free throw. Stephanie Klemick made a jumper with just over a minute remaining to end the Cyclones' chances at a comeback on their home court.

The Pacers held on to a 45-39 advantage in rebounds. Marywood shot 36.1 percent from the field to the Cyclones' 28.1 percent mark.

Marywood continued its recent trend of being stingy on 3-point defense. Centenary went just 3 of 20 (15%) from beyond the arc.

The Pacers remain on the road with a tilt at Cabrini University on Saturday.
