Marywood Sweeps Relays at Ursinus

Pacers' 4x800 team breaks record by five seconds

Collegeville, Pa. — Marywood University swept both men's track and field relays Saturday at Urisinus College's Collegeville Classic. The Pacers finished fifth place overall out of 11 teams with 34 points.

Both the 4x400 and 4x800 relays closed the meet with first-place finishes.

The 4x800 relay of Thomas Lee, Michael Kelly, John Russo and Jack Baronski broke the school record by five seconds with a time of 8:27.59. At the midway point, the Pacers were in third place by more than a full second. Baronski ran a 2:03.53 split to overtake first place by an 8.5-second margin.

The 4x400 relay of Ryan Benedict, Christian ScottiGeorge Thompson and Noah Schock ran a 3:36.01 to outpace the field. The Pacers finished 2.3 seconds ahead of Elizabethtown College at the finish line.

Rasheed Sexius-Clerie tied the triple jump school record with a fifth-place finish. Sexius-Clerie landed at a distance of 38 feet, 10 1/2 inches (11.38m) to match Christian Scotti's 2020 record.

In the 800, Lee took fourth place with a time of 2:05.09, just 32-hundredths of a second ahead of Russo in seventh place. Their performances ranked fourth and fifth in school history, respectively.

Baronski garnered fourth place in the 5K run. He clocked in at 15:51.77 to rank second in school history.

Scotti cleared 5 feet, 7 1/4 inches (1.71m) to claim third place in the high jump. He bested his PR by 2 inches to move to fifth in the record books.

Thompson scored points with a seventh-place 200 run of 23.62 seconds that ranked third all-time at Marywood. His run was 35-hundredths of a second better than his previous best. He finished the 60 hurdles in 8.92 seconds to rank No. 2 with the program.

In addition to his 4x800 relay performance, Kelly ran a 53.97-second run to capture fifth place in the 400. Kelly set a PR by 1.55 seconds. The senior is running 2.5 seconds quicker than his 2019 best.

Other notable PRs included: 
  • Will Kalinich set a shot put PR of 33-11.25 (10.34m) with an improvement of 8 inches. 
  • Ryan Mathews earned a shot put PR for the second straight week. Mathews threw 33-0.25 (10.06m) to beat his mark by 2 inches. 
  • Travis Bahl enjoyed a 1.39-second drop to set a PR of 1:02.94 in the 400.
  • Noah Zeigler shaved a hundredth off his 200 best to record a 24.17-second finish. 
  • Ricky Stains III dropped seven seconds against his previous 3K to register a time of 10:37.72.
