Seniors Show Class in Shutout over Lakers

Marywood to face Gwynedd Mercy in the Atlantic East first round Tuesday

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University triumphed over Oswego State 3-0 on Saturday's volleyball Senior Day celebration. The Pacers (13-15) continue their season as the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic East Conference playoffs with a home match against fifth-seeded Gwynedd Mercy University on Tuesday evening.
 
Marywood bid adieu to seniors Emily O'Brien, Shannon Corr, Donna Bostjancic, Evangeline Kelly, Summer Evancho.
 
The Pacers defeated the Lakers by scores of 25-23, 25-19, 25-17.
 
Marywood received a match-high nine kills from Shannon Corr. Corr had a .444 attack percentage to go with six digs.
 
Emily O'Brien also performed well offensively with six kills and a .385 attack percentage.
 
Donna Bostjancic garnered eight digs. Mikayla Meek recorded 15 assists and eight digs.
 
For the second consecutive match, Casey Hagerstrom and Meek gained success at the front line with three blocks apiece. Hagerstrom also had three aces.
 
Marywood had a .167 attack percentage to the Lakers' .110. The Pacers had a 7-3 advantage in aces.
 
Oswego (17-10) was led by Emma Fiorentine's nine kills. McKenna Corbin had 29 assists and three block assists. Taylor Grace recorded four block assists.
 
In the first set, the two teams stayed in lock step until O'Brien put the Pacers ahead 23-22 with a kill. Bostjancic forced set point with an ace. Corr gave Marywood a 1-0 advantage with a kill for a 25-23 win.
 
An 8-1 run gave Marywood enough wiggle room in the second set. Corr had game-tying and go-ahead points (10-9) on kills. Retaking the lead on a service error, Marywood scored five straight on Libby Smith serves to stretch the lead to 15-10. The Pacers took the 2-0 lead on a ball-handling error.
 
Marywood is one win short of tying Bill Schutter's career mark. The Pacers will welcome the Griffins on Tuesday night at 7 pm. Marywood defeated the Griffins 3-0 in its conference finale.
