Men's Soccer Upends Cyclones in Atlantic East Opener

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University opened its Atlantic East Conference men's soccer schedule Wednesday with a 2-0 win over Centenary University. It marked the Pacers' first victory over the Cyclones since 2014, ending a streak of four winless games.

Danny Gomez broke a scoreless goal in the 66th minute. On a David Chemidlin direct kick from midfield, Trey Watson advanced the ball to the top of the box, and Gomez converted a shot from 18 yards out. It is the Pacers' second double-assisted goal in three games.

Richard Fuchs scored his fifth of the season for an insurance goal in the 82nd minute. Fuchs converted a penalty kick after the Cyclones were called for a handball infraction in the box.

In spite of the score, the Cyclones out-shot Marywood by a 17-12 margin and edged the Pacers 10-8 in shots on target. Centenary had a 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Alex Russo made 10 saves to notch a clean sheet. His counterpart Andrew Tarkazikis made six saves.

Marywood travels to Cabrini University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
