Showers Gets First Coaching Win in Season Opener

Marywood to face Penn State Wilkes-Barre in Electric City Classic championship

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University head coach Jon Showers earned his first career victory as the men's basketball team trounced The King's College (N.Y.) 107-46 on Friday night. The Pacers will play Penn State Wilkes-Barre in the Electric City Classic championship on Saturday afternoon. 

The Pacers shot 56.2 percent from the floor and held the Lions to a 28.3 percent figure. Marywood out-rebounded King's by a 53-23 margin. 

Marywood's 29 assists were the second-most in school history behind 33 helpers against SUNY ESF in 2014. The 107 points are the fourth-most in program history. 

Nineteen of the 20 Pacers that entered the game scored a point. 

Caleb Vigil led the Pacers with 11 points. Robert Van Brunt was the only other player in double figures, scoring 10 points in a mere three minutes of action. 

Corey Perkins and Nick Hilenski each had team-highs of six rebounds. 

For King's, Michael Perez, Christian Longerbeam and Christopher Morris each had 10 points. 

Manor College will take on King's in the consolation game at 2 p.m. The Pacers will welcome Penn State Wilkes-Barre at 4 p.m.
