Becker Shines as Marywood Falls to #1 Misericordia in NCAA Opener

Junior keeper breaks own school scoreless minutes record

Dallas, Pa. - Junior goalkeeper Rebekah Becker shined and broke her own school record scoreless minutes streak as Marywood University women's soccer fell to Misericordia University - the number one team in the nation - in Saturday's NCAA first round game.

Marywood (11-7-2) held the powerful Misericordia offense off the board for the opening 33:25, allowing Becker to edge her previous school record. Until Misericordia's first goal, Becker held opponents scoreless for 555:54. Her old mark, set in 2021, was 547:14.

After Colleen Kinsella broke the scoreless deadlock, Misericordia book-ended two penalty kick goals around the halftime horn. The first came five minutes after Kinsella's goal and was tucked home by Brenna Field. The latter came just :48 into the second half and was put in the back netting by Sweitzer despite Becker getting a hand on it.

Kate Field, Kaylee Sturans and Mary Katharine Peters all scored second half goals along with Sweitzer's penalty.

In all, Becker made 12 stops against the unbeaten (19-0-1) Cougars. Misericordia had a 41-0 advantage in shots (18-0 on goal).

The Cougars will face the winner of tonight's second game between York (Pa.) and Western New England Sunday night at 5:00 pm.
