Pacers' Winning Streak Halted by Aggies

Savannah Purdy leads Pacers with 24 points

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University's seven-game winning streak was put to a stop in a 78-71 loss to Delaware Valley University on Tuesday in women's basketball action. The Pacers cut a 19-point fourth quarter deficit down to four but were unable to overcome the Aggies in the end.

Senior Savannah Purdy scored her highest points total since her freshman season with 24. She was 9 for 13 from the field and 5 of 6 from the line.

Olivia Ciullo aided the fourth quarter comeback with 13 points and seven rebounds. Jade Rolon finished with nine points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Marywood had to overcome an injury to Division III Player of the Week Abbey McGee in the first half.

The Pacers struggled against the length of the Aggies squad. Alexis Wright came off the bench to score 25 points and 14 rebounds. Taylor Richardson had a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sophie Chevres had 12 points and seven assists.

The Aggies jumped out to an 11-2 lead from early baskets by Chevres and Jenna Schiessl. Schiessl connected on her second-straight 3-pointer at the 6:53 mark. Rolon made a runner right before the halftime buzzer to cut the Aggies' lead to 27-20 at the break.

DelVal expanded its lead to 58-39 on a Wright 3-pointer with 8:33 remaining. Marywood went on a 66-62 run to make it a two-possession game. Faith Kendricks sank a 3-pointer from a Ciullo pass to trim the deficit to 66-62 with 1:23 left. DelVal made one of its two free throw attempts, and Maisie Neuber scored a tipped offensive rebound put-back to go ahead 69-62. Purdy scored in the paint to make it a five-point game, and Neuber drained a layup. Emmersen Peel's addition to the lineup resulted in a 3-pointer to go ahead 74-69. Wright made another layup to seal the victory.

DelVal had a 49-36 advantage in rebounds. Both teams combined for 13 blocks.

Marywood is idle until back-to-back games after Christmas. The Pacers will take on Pitt-Bradford on Thursday, Dec. 29 and Lebanon Valley on Friday, Dec. 30.
