Pacers Come Short in Tussle with Valiants

Vigil has second straight game of 20 or more points

Scranton, Pa. —Marywood University fell to Manhattanville College 64-61 on Friday night in non-conference men's  basketball action. The Pacers find their record evened at 4-4 on the season. 

Caleb Vigil posted his second-straight game with 20 or more points. He scored 20 on a 7 for 12 performance from the field. 

Mason Mendygral was the only other Pacer in double figures with 11 points. Trevor Seitz had nine points and six assists. 

Marywood committed just four turnovers to the Valiants' 17 giveaways. 

Manhattanville had three scorers in double figures. Benjamin Merritt came off the bench to post 19 points. Tommy Lotito had 14 points, and Jackson Leech finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Marywood led 51-45 on a 3-pointer from Mendygral with 11:26 remaining in the game. Manhattanville scored 12 unanswered points, and they held the Pacers scoreless for more than eight minutes. Jason Holman hit a hook shot to move within two possessions with three minutes left. 

Marywood went on an 8-1 run, and Mendygral hit a long-ranged bucket to on a kick-out from Holman with 34 seconds left that cut the Valiants' lead to one. Lotito made a crucial layup in the paint. Marywood had one last chance to force its fourth overtime game ot the season, yet Vigil's desperation 3-pointer came up short. 

The Pacers well head to Williamsport on Sunday to take on Lycoming College at 5 p.m.
