Men's Lacrosse Ices Colonels in Home Opener

Nick Ericson matches single-game points record

Scranton, Pa. — For the third time in as many games this season, a Marywood University single-game school record was rewritten.

Nick Ericson matched the Pacers' mark for most ground balls in one game. Ericson earned 17 ground balls after winning 85% of his faceoff chances (17-of-20) on the game.

As temperatures on the field dropped 40 degrees from pregame to the final whistle, Marywood University downed Wilkes University for an 11-6 victory on Wednesday in the men's lacrosse home opener. The Pacers improve to 2-1 on the season.

Aiden Kilkenny finished with a game-high five goals.

Marywood senior Connor Reed provided another brilliant performance in net. Reed made 14 saves and allowed just six Wilkes shots past him. He totaled seven ground balls.

Defensively, Thomas Carroll caused two turnovers and provided five ground balls. Seth Croll also had two CTOs with four ground balls. Kieran Scanlan produced four ground balls, and Dillon Kane factored in with three GBs.

Wilkes received a hat trick from Eric Ormsby. Luke Palladino had three points on a goal and two assists.

The Colonels took an early lead on a Palladino man-up goal less than two minutes into regulation Kane and Kilkenny each tallied unassisted goals, and Ormsby added another man-up goal to even the score at 2-2.

A mere 26 seconds later, Kilkenny ignited a five-goal Marywood run. The Pacers added four unanswered goals int he last 4:14 of the first quarter, and Kilkenny found the net to open the second quarter to give Marywood a 7-2 advantage. Wilkes had its third straight man-up goal of the half to go into the break at a 7-3 deficit.

Marywood out-shot Wilkes by a 50-33 margin; however, both teams had 20 shots on target. Marywood won the ground ball game 56-40. Wilkes converted all three of its extra-man opportunities.

The Pacers look to keep their winning record intact on Saturday with a road game at Arcadia University.
