Women's Lacrosse Shuts Down Monarchs

Wilkes-Barre Twp., Pa. — Marywood University won for the second time in three days with a 9-4 victory over King's College on Thursday in women's lacrosse. The Pacers move to 2-0 to begin the season.
 
Kayla McCabe finished with four goals and an assist for a game-high five points. McCabe also had a team-best four ground balls.
 
The Pacers received a three-point effort (2g-1a) from Emma Solomon. Ashley Cunningham scored a pair of goals for the second-straight game.
 
Alaina Brenneman rounded out the scoring for Marywood with a goal, in addition to three ground balls. Taylor Barksdale caused a pair of turnovers.
 
Marywood keeper Emily Dyminski made nine saves in the winning effort.
 
Both McCabe and Brenneman finished with four draw controls.
 
King's won the ground ball game by a 17-15 margin. The Pacers were 10-of-19 on clears and held the Monarchs to an 8-17 ratio. King's committed 21 turnovers to Marywood's 19.
 
The Monarchs took an early lead 36 seconds into regulation on a Natasha Koslop goal. Less than 90 seconds later, Brenneman found a lane from a Solomon pass to even the score. McCabe gave Marywood its first lead at the 10:50 mark.
 
After giving up a goal in the opening minute, Marywood kept King's scoreless the rest of the first half, going on a four-goal run to head into the break with a 4-1 lead. King's opened the second half with an opening goal via Kyleigh Dunworth to cut the Pacers' lead to two. Marywood responded with three unanswered, including back-to-back free-position goals from Cunningham.
 
Marywood heads to Cazenovia College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
