Marywood Comes Back to Topple Lions in Fourth Quarter Rally

Reading, Pa. — Marywood University rallied from three down in the fourth quarter to post a 9-7 victory over Albright College on Saturday in non-conference men's lacrosse. The Pacers secure their third consecutive victory.

Trailing 6-1 in the fourth quarter, the Pacers scored six of the last seven goals in a 10-minute span to defeat the Lions. It is the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Connor Reed made 26 saves in a winning effort. Reed had the second-most single-game saves in program history, only trailing the 29 stops made earlier this season at University of Scranton. Reed finished with a .788 save percentage for the game and added two ground balls.

Dalton Metzger had the lion's share of the Pacers' scoring with a five-goal performance. John Scibell finished with two goals and an assist. Ben Mustakos added a pair of assists.

At the x, Nick Ericson won 16 of 21 faceoffs (76.2 percent) with 13 ground balls. During the fourth quarter comeback, Ericson won all eight faceoff opportunities.

Defensively, Thomas Carroll earned five ground balls and caused two turnovers.

With the offense limited to just three goals in as many quarters, Metzger was the sparkplug to the comeback effort with a goal from  Mustakos in the opening 27 seconds of the fourth. Thirty-seven seconds latter, Metzger put the Pacers (6-3) within one goal. Albright took advantage of a man-up chance with 12 minutes remaining in what would be the lone goal of the period.

Metzger added a pair of goals within a 1:08 stretch to tie the game. Metzger's tally with 7:15 left evened the scoreboard at seven apiece.

Ericson won the ensuing faceoff. Dillon Kane scored the go-ahead goal with 6:12 remaining. Another Ericson faceoff win and ground ball yielded an insurance goal from Scibello with 5:29 left in regulation.

Albright regained possession in its offensive end for the first time in six minutes. Reed made a stop on the Lions' Cole Genneken with 3:03 left. He again stopped a Jay Shifflet just before the minute mark, and the Pacers' offense held possession the rest of the way for the victory.

Albright's Gasperio Alessi had six ground balls.

The Lions outshot Marywood by a 58-51 margin. The Pacers edged the Lions 36-34 on ground balls.

It marks Marywood's best record through nine games since the 2015 season.

The Pacers look to extend their winning streak to four games when they stay within Lackawanna County borders to take on Keystone College on Wednesday night.
