Baseball Holds off PSU Schuylkill for 13th Win

Scranton, Pa. - James Myers homered and drove in three runs total as Marywood University baseball held off Penn State Schuylkill for a 5-4 win Wednesday, the Pacers' 13th victory this season.

Marywood (13-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third when Michael Tempel doubled to right center, bringing home Quinton Roma and Morgan Theobald.  Myers then drove in Kyle Morin on a sacrifice fly out to center, giving the Pacers a 3-0 lead by the end of the inning.

In the fifth, PSU Schuylkill (4-5) got an RBI single to left center from Ethan Naftzi, but Marywood got two more RBI from Myers in the home half of the inning when he homered to left field.

The Lions then scored three runs in a row over a pair of innings, two in the sixth and one in the eighth to cut the Marywood lead to one, 5-4.

Matthew Klipple would shut down the visitors in their last at bat to earn his first save of the season.  Antonio Ferraro, who allowed just one hit and struck out one over two innings of early relief work, got the win. He is now 1-0 on the mound. Starter Danny Becker struck out four and allowed just two hits over the opening two innings.

At the plate, Tempel finished 2-for-3 with a double, pair of RBI and a run scored.  Myers finished 1-for-2 with his homer and three RBI. Theobald also doubled for the Pacers.

Marywood opens a three-game series with Atlantic East Conference foe Gwynedd Mercy University Friday in Gwynedd Valley. First pitch is set for 3:00 pm.
