Baseball Sweeps Clarks Summit to Reach 18 Wins

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University swept Clarks Summit University in an "away" doubleheader Tuesday afternoon to improve to 18-7. The 18 wins is fourth most in program history and most since a 20-win campaign in 2015.

Playing as the away team in their own park due to unplayable field conditions at Clarks Summit, Marywood took the opener 11-2 and the nightcap 13-1.

TJ Lacey (4-1) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of the opener. He finished with five strikeouts and allowed one earned run on one hit. Dan Cossa pitched a scoreless seventh in relief, striking out one.

Jake Schuster went 2-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored in the 11-2 win. Schuster doubled and homered for the Pacers. Kyle Morin also homered for Marywood and collected four RBI as well as part of his 2-for-5 plate appearance in the opener. Paul Chorba also had two hits.

Morin opened the game for the Pacers with a three-run blast to left in the top of the first. Marywood added another run on a Chorba RBI single.  Schuster would double in a run in the fourth and hit the Pacers' second three-run homer of the game in the fifth.

Clarks Summit ruined the shutout bid in the fifth with an unearned run and the no-hit bid in the sixth on a RBI single.

In the nightcap, Marywood carried a 2-1 lead into the fourth after RBIs from Michael Tempel in the first and Ryan Evans in the second. From there it was all Marywood as they used a four-run fourth and three-run fifth to break the game open.

Michael Tempel had four RBI in the win. He was 3-for-5 at the plate. Myers, Morgan Theobald, Quinton Roma and Evans all doubled. Aaron Gutierrez (1-0) got the win after striking out two over two innings of early relief work. Marywood pitchers did not allow a hit after the third inning.

The Pacers return to Atlantic East Conference play Thursday as they open a series with Marymount University. Game time in Arlington, Virginia is set for 1:00 pm.
