Thompson Wins 400 Hurdles at Moravian to Break School Record

Baronski finishes second in the 1500

Bethlehem, Pa. — George Thompson won the 400 hurdles at the Coach Pollard Invitational this weekend at Moravian University. Thompson broke the Marywood University men's track and field school record in the event. 

Thompson finished first in the 400 hurdles in a record-breaking time of 56.97 seconds.  He broke the school record with a drop of more than one second. Thompson recorded the second-fastest time in the conference, 15th overall in the Mid-Atlantic Region, as well as securing an AARTFC qualifier. Teammate Ryan Benedict trailed right behind Thompson, running under the previous school record in 57.83 seconds. His time ranks 20th in the region. 

Thompson finished second in the 110 hurdles in 15.67 seconds. 

In the 800, Michael Kelly ran under the two-minute mark for the first time in 1:59.44. Kelly came in third place overall, registering the third-best time in the conference and 25-best in the region. Thomas Lee (2:00.08) and Jack Baronski (2:00.25) were fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Baronski's time slotted third in the conference and fourth in Marywood history. He crossed in second place in the 1,500 in 4:05.32. 

Noah Zeigler raced to a second-place finish in the 200 dash. He ran an Atlantic East-best 22.71-second sprint. Regionally, Zeigler sits 14th in the event. He came in third place in 11.24 seconds in the 100 dash. 

Marywood earned the top two 3K Steeplechase times in the conference. Caleb Bakalyar was third in 10:43.61 to secure top billing on the Atlantic East heat sheet and 40th in the region. Mariano Casciotti placed third in the race and in Marywood's record books with a 11:11.83 mark. 

Noah Schock had a fifth-place run in the 200 dash. Schock crossed the finish line in 23.16 seconds, earning the No. 5 spot in the Marywood record books. He is sixth in the Atlantic East and 42nd in the Mid-Atlantic region. 

In the throws, Ryan Mathews reached a distance of 112 feet, 2 inches (34.2m). He stands fifth in Marywood history and second in the Atlantic East. 

Adam Kanterman raced to second place in the 10K in 35:03. Ian Kovatch dropped 21 seconds off his seed time in the 5K, finishing the race in 16:28.49. He is fifth in the AEC. 

A pair of sprinters had PRs. Jason Lee cut 32-hundredths of a second to earn a time of 12.6 second in the 100 dash. He also ran 26-hundredths of a second better in the 200 dash (25.81). Travis Bahl ran nine-hundredths of a second (13.18) better in the 100 dash. 

In limited action at Bucknell University, Thomas Lee ran the second-best 800 (1:58.51) at Marywood. Thompson completed the 400 with the fourth-best time ( 51.8) in the program.

Marywood will compete at King's College next weekend.
