Men's Tennis Bows Out of AEC Semifinals

Neumann gets 6-3 win to advance to Championship

Aston, Pa. - Host and two-seed Neumann University rallied for a 6-3 win over Marywood University men's tennis Wednesday afternoon, ending the Pacers' season in the Atlantic East Conference semifinals.

The third-seeded Pacers took a 2-1 lead into singles play after pulling out wins at two- and three-doubles. After the Knights took the one-doubles match 8-3, Marywood's Max Burke and Trey Watson took a hard-fought match at three-doubles 8-7 (8-3) to tie the match 1-1. 

At two-doubles, Marywood got another point from David Chemidlin and James Cawley. The duo proved victorious 8-7 (8-6).

In singles action, Neumann's Dan Bonowski took down Eddie McGreevy in the #1 slot 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Stefano Varela-Seri fell 6-1, 6-2 at two-singles, and Chemedlin dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision at three-singles.

Cawley got another point for the Pacers with a 6-2, 6-1 win at four-singles, but Neumann took wins at five and six singles to close out the win.

Neumann (7-2) will face top-seed Marymount University (Va.) Friday for the conference championship and automatic bid to the NCAA Division III national tournament. 

Marywood concludes the year at 3-8.
