Softball Wins Pod A, Defeats Centenary 9-3

Pacers will host AEC Championships next Saturday

Scranton, Pa. - Top-seed Marywood University softball advances to host next weekend's Atlantic East Conference Championships after defeating #6 Centenary 9-3 Saturday morning.

Ashdon Clark drove in the first run of the game with a single to right to score Nina Kozar in the top of the first. The Cyclones responded with a Toni Cacopardo RBI single to left in the bottom half of the first, Marywood got a pair of unearned runs the next inning to take a 3-2 lead.

Centenary's Maggie Lenahan cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the second, but Marywood outscored the Cyclones 6-0 over the next three innings to take a commanding 9-2 lead.

In the fourth, Kozar drove in a run with an RBI single to right. In the fifth, Lindsey Jason drove in two with a single through the left side.  Marywood scored in the sixth on a Kristie Epler RBI single, a wild pitch and a Julianna Beidler RBI single.  

Centenary got one back in the bottom of the seventh.  

Kozar finished Saturday's game 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Ashdon Clark and Lindsey Jason were both 2-for-4 while Emily Rose had a triple. Jessica Hanley was 3-for-4. 

Mara Hamm (14-2) scattered nine hits and allowed two earned runs in the complete-game victory. 

The Pacers (26-7) will host #2 Cabrini (21-10), the winners of Pod B, next weekend in a best-of-three series for the Conference Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Game one will take place Friday, May 6 at 4:00 pm in Scranton.
