Women's Tennis Knocks Off Immaculata in AEC Opener

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University knocked off the defending Atlantic East Conference Champions with a 7-2 win over Immaculata University Wednesday afternoon. It was the conference opener for both schools. 

Marywood took a quick 2-0 lead with wins at three doubles and two doubles. Elsa Kovatch and Lyndsey Medric dispatched of Audrey Keen and Jenna Muttik 8-2 at three doubles to open the match.  

Faith Kendricks and partner Karah Laboranti were 8-4 winners over Jessica Dougherty and Kelly O'Brien at two doubles. Immaculata (1-11, 0-1 AEC) would grab the final doubles' point with a 8-3 win from Annamarie Degan and Pamela Kontaras as they defeated Allison Bashore and Gabriella Nowak at one doubles.

In singles action, Laboranti put Marywood up 3-1 with a 6-0, 6-0 win nover Keen at five singles. Medric would then defeat O'Brien 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) at four singles.

Nowak then effectively ended the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at two singles over Dougherty, putting Marywood up 5-1.

Bashore exacted some revenge from her doubles defeat with a thrilling 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-2 three set win over Degan in one singles.

Gianna Snell closed the win column for the Pacers with a three set 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Mutttik at six singles.

Immaculata's singles victory came from Kotaras, who defeated Kendricks in another tightly contested match, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 11-9. 

Marywood (5-7, 1-0 AEC) hosts Cabrini Saturday at 12:00 pm.
