Men's Soccer Suffers First Setback to Green Terror

Alex Russo stops four shots

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University's two-game men's soccer winning streak came to a halt in a 2-0 loss to the McDaniel College Green Terror on Wednesday. The Pacers fall to 2-1 on the season, and the Green Terror stay undefeated after three games.

Just a few minutes after they entered the game, a pair of substitutes teamed up to end the scoreless draw. Carver Neary blasted a ball from Justin Winborne-Freeman that was crossed from the right side in the 37th minute.

Nick Starr made the best of an under-hit goal kick to give the Green Terror an insurance goal in the 79th minute. Jorge Herrera intercepted the ball and sent a throughball to Nick Starr. Starr's first attempt was saved by Alex Russo, and Starr collected the ball at the 14-yard mark and delivered into the net.

Russo finished with four saves.

Marywood threatened first in the 10th minute. Mason Guelho's shot on a cross was stopped by Austin Heid. Danny Gomez had a chance for an equalizer in the 65th minute, and Heid pounced on the attempt to the bottom right corner.

McDaniel out-shot the Pacers by a 18-4 mark but only had a 6-4 advantage in shots on target. The Green Terror had a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Marywood heads on the road for the first time this season. The Pacers will travel to Penn State Berks on Saturday at 1 p.m.
