Women's Basketball Stymies Streak, Survives Late Cyclone Threat

Jade Rolon leads all rebounders with 11

Hackettstown, N.J. — Marywood University ended a four-game losing streak with a 56-48 victory over Centenary University Saturday in Atlantic East Conference women's basketball. The Pacers put four players in double figures.

Savannah Purdy deployed an all-around effort with 13 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Stephanie Klemick posted 12 rebounds and three blocks. Olivia Ciullo provided the Pacers with 11 points.

Senior point guard Jade Rolon had the second double-double of her career. As one of the shortest players on the court, she had a game-high 11 rebounds with 10 points.

Leading by as many as 25, Marywood saw its second-half lead diminish to a two-possession game in the closing minutes. Centenary's Carmen Escano made a pair of free throws with 1:06 left to cut the Pacers' lead to 52-47. After Ciullo made one of two free throws, Tanya Elsbree made her first and missed her second free throw. Collecting an offensive rebound, Escano shot a jump shot that was blocked by Klemick with 36 seconds remaining. Klemick secured the rebound, and Ciullo made a pair of free throws to secure the win.

Marywood shot 35.6 percent from the field and 26.7 percent from long range. The Pacers were 62.5 percent from the line. The Pacers' defense held the Cyclones to a 27.1 percent field goal mark.

Centenary's Brie Opdyke scored 12 points and Sofia Mendez had 10.

The Pacers (12-6, 2-4 AEC) look for back-to-back wins against Immaculata University on Monday. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Insalaco Arena.
