Pacers Roll Into AEC Slate with Win over Cyclones

Marywood posts a 20-point run midway through the contest

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University carried its best start in women's basketball program history into Atlantic East play with a 74-62 victory over Centenary University Wednesday in the conference opener. The Pacers have a seven-game winning streak over the Cyclones and a three-game winning streak overall.

Marywood (11-2, 1-0) received a double-double from Olivia Ciullo (Old Forge). She finished with team-bests of 27 points and 14 rebounds. Ciullo was 11 of 18 from the floor.

Savannah Purdy (Lake-Lehman) was just a rebound shy of a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Faith Kendricks (Valley View) and Jade Rolon scored season highs of 12 and 11 points, respectively. Rolon finished with eight rebounds and five assists. Kendricks produced four steals.

Marywood trailed 19-15 after the first quarter. The Cyclones' Camryn Rothery made a 3-pointer to take their largest lead of the game, and Ciullo scored just before the buzzer.

Centenary led 26-23 midway through the second quarter. Marywood rattled off a 20-point run that carried into the next half. Kendricks drained a 3-pointer from a Rolon assist to take the team's first lead of the game (28-26) with 3:25 remaining. Ciullo made a basket just before the break that capped a 14-point run to close the half.

Purdy made a basket that capped the Pacers' momentum and gave them a 43-26 lead with 7:58 left in the third quarter. Centenary responded in cool fashion with a 17-4 swing, led largely by 10 consecutive McKayla Mooney points.

In the fourth quarter, Centenary brought the Marywood advantage down to two possessions (55-51) on a Kaylie Elsbree layup at 6:29. Marywood scored seven unanswered points to reclaim its comfortable lead.

Marywood committed 20 turnovers, and Centenary used it for a 21-11 advantage in points off giveaways. The Pacers had a 17-9 advantage in second-chance points. Marywood outrebounded the Cyclones by a stark 49-27 ratio.

The Pacers shot 45.9 percent from the field. Centenary was at a 36.1 percent figure.

Brie Opdyke had a team-best 14 points for the Cyclones. Elbree totaled 13 points.

Marywood will travel to Neumann University on Saturday.
