Marywood Conquers Mighty Macs, 4-1

Pacers win sixth straight

Scranton, Pa. — On this brisk fall evening, the Pacers played host to the Mighty Macs of Immaculata University, where they came out on top with a 4-1 victory. With the win, Marywood improved to 12-3 (4-0 AEC). Immaculata dropped to 6-9 (3-2 AEC) with the loss.

The Mighty Macs opened up the scoring in just the 2nd minute of the game, on a goal from Lauren Buckel, assisted by Lauren Vanderbraak.

The Pacers wasted no time at all to equalize, scoring in the 3rd minute, a mere 11 seconds after the Immaculata tally. An assist from Jordan Saybe set up Brie Sumner for the Marywood goal.

In the 5th minute, the Pacers grabbed their first lead of the match, thanks to a goal off the stick of Dariane Jones, assisted by Sumner.

Saybe built on the Marywood lead in the 17th minute, when she scored on a put-back after a barrage of Pacer shots, just after a penalty corner.

Coming out of the half, in the 33rd minute, the Pacers' lead grew to 4-1 when Cassie Slusser found an open Sumner, who scorched a shot past the Mighty Macs' keeper and into the back of the cage. This was Sumner's second goal of the evening.

The Pacers hung on to the lead for the remainder of the match, and held the Mighty Macs silent for the last 57 minutes, thanks to three Leah Ewing saves.

Immaculata keepers, Ashley Finkbiner and Julia Levase, combined for seven saves.

Marywood will look to grow the winning streak to seven on Saturday, when they host St. Mary's College of Maryland at noon.
