Volleyball Outlasts Immaculata in Five Sets

Immaculata, Pa. - A short-handed Marywood University team earned its first Atlantic East Conference volleyball win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Immaculata University on Wednesday. The Pacers improve to 7-16 overall and 1-2 in conference play. 

The Pacers won by scores of 25-21, 20-25, 12-25, 25-21, 15-9. 

Mikayla Meek led the Pacers offensively with 12 kills and .286 hitting percentage. She totaled 17 points, thanks to three aces and two solo blocks. 

Karli Boyer had eight kills and eight digs. Ashley Humer provided four aces. Jaedyn Laws tallied 23 assists. 

Defensively, Gianna Norton led with 19 digs. Donna Bostjancic factored in with 13 digs. Autumn Savitski had two blocks with three aces. 

Immaculata (12-9, 0-3 AEC) had 13 kills from Isabella Ridgell. The Mighty Macs had 27 digs from Lily Burnette. 

In the fifth set, Marywood took a 6-4 lead on a Meek ace. The Pacers doubled the Macs on Libby Smith serves. Smith had an ace and Savitski notched a kill to go ahead 10-5. Meek earned match point on a kill from Laws. 

Marywood came back from a set down in the fourth. 

After Immaculata went on a 9-3 run in the fourth set to move within one point (19-18) of the Pacers, a service error allowed Boyers to change the Pacers' fortunes with a kill. Boyer had the final three kills for the Pacers in the fourth set. 

Marywood travels to a tri-match at Arcadia on Saturday. The Pacers will take on the Knights and Widener University.
