Field Hockey Falls to St. Mary's in Atlantic East Championship

Corrin Hasty named Atlantic East Elite 20 winner

St. Mary's City, Md. — Marywood University fell 1-0 to St. Mary's College of Maryland in the Atlantic East Conference field hockey championship on Saturday. The Seahawks win for the first time in three consecutive Atlantic East final appearances.

Briana Allen lifted the Seahawks with a third-period goal. Allen put back a rebound at the far post for the eventual game-winner.

Corrin Hasty was selected the Atlantic East Elite 20 winner for the highest cumulative grade point average among final participants.

The Seahawks' Audrey Dickens was named the tournament MVP for scoring the game-winning goal in their 1-0 win over Cabrini in the semifinals.

It was a tight game for the first two periods. St. Mary's held the Pacers without a shot while the hosts owned a 6-0 (2-0 on goal) shot advantage and a 3-1 penalty corner margin. Charlotte Horn tested Marywood's defense in the third minute, and Cassie Slusser denied the first scoring chance with a defensive save. Horn knocked on the door again in the 12th minute, and Leah Ewing made an excellent stop.

Ewing turned away an attempt in the 33rd minute with a foot save. Marywood finally had its first save in the 37th minute. Jordan Saybe's attempt was denied by netminder Caroline McDonald.

Dariane Jones had a shot on goal in the 42nd minute, and McDonald again kept it out of the cage. Slusser had a late attempt at goal but it was blocked by a defender.

Ewing made three saves in the loss.
