Double OT Goal Spoils Pacers' Title Run

Emily Welsh repeats as Atlantic East Elite 20 winner

Scranton, Pa. — A double overtime goal ended Marywood University's hopes at a repeat Atlantic East Conference women's soccer title. The top-seeded Pacers fell 1-0 to No. 2 Marymount University on Saturday in the championship game.

Emily Welsh was selected as the Atlantic East Conference Elite 20 winner for the second straight season. Welsh had the highest cumulative GPA among all student-athletes competing in the championship game.

Minnie Morris scored the game-winning goal in the 104th minute. On a ball that bounced in the box, Morris won the ball off a defender and delivered a shot through traffic for a goal.

Marywood had multiple chances to score in regulation. In the 35th minute, defender Sarah Kretchmer placed a ball into the box for Isabel Shore. Her shot was saved by Marymount keeper Hannah Mockenhaupt.

Carly Walters nearly scored on a corner kick opportunity in the 76th minute. Josephine Sorce placed a ball that bounced around players in the box. Walters sent a shot that dinged off the right post, and a Saints defender rejected at the line for a team save.

After Morris' goal, Marywood had one chance in the 106th minute. Sorce could not get enough mustard on her shot, and Mockenhaupt held onto the ball for a save.

Morris was named the Atlantic East Tournament MVP.

Mila Elash made two saves in the losing effort. Elash broke the Rebekah Becker's school record for consecutive scoreless minutes. She kept opponents out of goal for 586 minutes, beating the previous mark by 31 minutes.
