Men's Basketball Unable to Push Past Poly

Marywood suffers fourth straight loss on the road

York, Pa. - Marywood University came up short in a 72-67 loss to SUNY Poly Sunday in the second day of York College of Pennsylvania's Spartan Men's Basketball Classic. The Pacers suffer their fourth consecutive game on the road.

Freshman Austin Bausman led the Pacers with 14 points. He was 5 of 11 from the field with three of the team's four 3-pointers.

Trevor Seitz finished with 13 points. Brendan Franko and Shilo Bivins each provided 10-point performances.

Cole Johnson contributed eight rebounds and five assists. Brandon Reed recorded four steals.

Marywood (5-7) struggled from long range, hitting just 4 of 28  (14.3%) from beyond the arc. Poly connected on just 5 of 14 (35.7%) 3-point attempts.

The Wildcats (6-5) had an 18-point performance by Anthony Rose off the bench. LJ Randle totaled 17 points and eight rebounds. Cheickne Toure (14) and Josh Ernst (12) each were in double figures.

Marywood scored six straight points to force a 67-67 stalemate with less than two minutes remaining. Seitz scored on a layup to start the rally. Johnson found Bivins for a layup with 2:34 remaining. Corey Perkins knotted the score with a basket at the 1:56 mark.

Both teams stayed scoreless until Randle drained a 3-pointer from an Alec Bartone feed with 35 seconds left. A would-be tying 3-pointer was blocked by Randle, and Rose completed both free throws to close out the game.

Marywood is idle until after Christmas. The Pacers will take on Division I Binghamton University in an exhibition on Dec. 30.
