Pacers Battle Cavs Tough, Fall Short in Second Half

Savannah Purdy, Jade Rolon each conclude their careers with double-digit scoring performances

Radnor, Pa. — Sixth-seeded Marywood University stayed close with No. 3 Cabrini University in the Atlantic East Conference women's basketball first round. The Pacers were eliminated 80-58 to the Cavaliers. 

Cabrini plays second-seeded Gwynedd Mercy University in the semifinals. 

Seniors Savannah Purdy and Jade Rolon completed their careers with impressive performances. Purdy finished with a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds. Rolon was a rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. 

With six assists, Rolon finishes her career in a three-way tie with the 10th most assists (215) in program history. 

Stephanie Klemick had a 12-point effort. Faith Kendricks totaled 11 points off of the bench. 

In the first quarter, Marywood took a 15-13 lead when Rolon swished a long-ranged shot with 45 seconds remaining. Cabrini evened the score at 15-15 on a Katie Rodriguez layup before the buzzer. 

The Pacers kept with the Cavaliers into the second quarter. Kendrick connected for a 3-pointer with an assist from Purdy. Giana Rullo tied the game (26-26) with a fast-break jumper. Colby White's free throw slimmed down the Pacers' deficit to 30-27 with a minute to play. Kai Williams made a jump shot to go into half with a 32-27 deficit. 

Marywood made it a two-possession game in the third quarter when Rachel McDonald's 3-pointer put the Pacers within 41-36. 

Cabrini pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Pacers by a 27-14 margin.

Ella Gordon led the Cavaliers with 24 points. Miranda Liebtag had 14 points, and Abby Paolini tallied 13 points.
