Knights Defeat Pacers Behind Metzger's Five Goals

Scranton, Pa. — The Marywood University men's lacrosse team fell to 2-4 in Atlantic East Conference play after a tough 11-10 loss to Neumann University. Dalton Metzger led the Pacers with five goals. 

Before the start of regulation, the team celebrated their four seniors: Metzger, Harrison Miccio, Kieran Scanlan, and Matt Potter

John Scibello contributed five points on three goals and two assists. 

The Knights had an early 1-0 lead just 20 seconds into the first quarter when Renzo Garone found the back of the net off an assist from Dalton Hofmann. Metzger tallied his first, two minutes later to notch the game at one. Neumann's Brendan Boschi tallied his first to put the Knights ahead. Metzger scored in the 12th minute to tie the game once more. Miccio scored unassisted to give the Pacers a 3-2 lead. Metzger closed out the first quarter with his third of the game to give the Pacers a 4-2 lead, which would mount to be the Pacers' only lead of the game.

Kyle Daly opened up the second quarter with an unassisted goal to cut the lead to one goal. With three minutes left, Neumann's Hofmann found Wyatt Belotti to tally the equalizer. In the 14th minute, Neumann's goalkeeper, Owen Avelar, contributed a goal on a hail mary to put the Knights ahead.

Neumann had control of the third quarter as they outscored Marywood by a 2-1 margin. Boschi tallied his second and third goals of the game in the first three minutes, each unassisted. Scibello closed out the third quarter to cut the lead to two goals.

The Pacers had a comeback in the fourth, but was not enough to take the victory. Neumann had back-to-back goals to extend their lead to 9-5. The Pacers responded with three straight to trail by one. Scibello contributed one goal, while Metzger tallied two. The Knights' Mike Kiley scored on a man-up opportunity. Sam Nice quickly followed with his first of the game. Dillon Kane responded on a man-up opportunity off an assist from Matt Manna. Scibello closed out the final quarter with 52 seconds left. 

Kane and Miccio tallied one goal, while Ben Pizzarello, Zach Saneman, and Scanlan contributed an assist each. 

Colin Trainor made 12 saves, while Nick Ericson went 14-25 in faceoffs.
