Pacers Edged by Lions as Comeback Effort Comes Up Empty

Albright forces a bases-loaded double play to end the game

Scranton, Pa. — A bases-loaded double play was all that thwarted Marywood University's comeback effort from seven runs down Tuesday in non-conference baseball action. The Pacers fell to Albright College by an 8-7 score.

Adam Ginsberg and James Myers finished 3 for 5. Myers had a run and a double, and he drove in two RBIs. Ginsberg scored twice.

The Pacers trailed 8-1 before starting their comeback in the sixth inning. Marywood scored four runs in the sixth and a run in the seventh inning.

Trailing 8-6 heading into the ninth, Adam Ginsberg singled through the left side and advanced to second on a balk. After Vinny D'Auria walked, James Myers hit a one-out single to left field that scored Ginsberg. An intentional walk loaded the bases with the tying and winning runs at second and third base.

Albright closed out the game by forcing a ground out double play. Lukas Khandagle earned the save by forcing the batter to roll over to third for a game-ending 5-2-3 double play.

D'Auria and Max Slusser finished with a pair of base hits with a run and an RBI. D'Auria reached three time and stole a base. The two-through-five spots in the lineup accounted for 10 of the Pacers' 12 hits.

Marywood's bullpen came in to shut the door on a Lions' offense that scored five runs in the second inning. AJ Jordan did not allow a run in 2 1/3 innings. Derrick Ricci-Riner threw 1 1/3 hitless innings. Matt Venezia stranded two runners for a scoreless frame. Tyler Quick tossed a perfect ninth to put his team in contention for a potential win.

The Pacers opened the game with an early lead when Slusser hit a ball to center field that scored Michak.

Albright responded with eight unanswered runs.

Marywood used a four-run sixth inning to five themselves a chance for a comeback. Slusser and D'Auria led off with back-to-back singles. Myers doubled in Slusser with a shot to left field. AJ Kuzior and James Daly knocked in a pair of RBI singles to the outfield. After Chris Thomas moved runners into scoring position, Max Ryan hit a sacrifice fly to make the game 8-5.

The Pacers tallied another run in the seventh. Ginsberg led off with a single and stole second base. D'Auria hit an RBI groundout.

Marywood travels to Rosemont College at 4 p.m. in King of Prussia.
