Marywood Falls to Brandywine in Late Innings

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University was unable to hold on to a three-run lead in a 14-6 loss to Penn State Brandywine Monday in non-conference baseball. The Lions scored 11 unanswered runs in the last five innings of play.

Max Slusser finished 4 for 5 with two runs and two RBIs. Slusser hit a two-run home run to give Marywood a 6-3 lead in the fourth inning.

AJ Kuzior went 3 for 5, and Danny Tiedemann had a pair of base hits. Vinny D'Auria drove in a pair of RBIs.

Christian Michak finished with two runs, two walks, and four stolen bases.

Marywood's committee of pitchers featured a shutdown effort by Aidan Dolan. Dolan came on to a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the second inning and sat down the next three batters without allowing a run. Dolan went three innings with two hits and an earned run allowed. Brett Kugler threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

The Pacers (10-12) went behind in the first inning and added two runs in the bottom. D'Auria singled to shortstop to drive in a run, and AJ Giannetti hit an RBI single to left for a 2-1 lead.

After Dolan left three stranded in the second, Rob Egan grooved a double to right field that brought home Slusser for a 3-2 lead. Penn State bounced back to tie the game in the fourth, and Marywood responded with a three-run frame. D'Auria sacrificed a flyball to right field that scored Michak. Slusser hit a two-run shot to left field that extended Marywood's lead to 6-3.

Marywood will travel across town to the University of Scranton's Volpe Field to take on Clarks Summit University at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
