Softball Slips to Cavaliers in Atlantic East Final

Marywood to await ECAC selections on Monday

Radnor, Pa. - Marywood University lost to Cabrini University in the Atlantic East Conference softball championship in two games on Friday. The Pacers fell 8-0 in six innings and 9-3.

Cabrini advances to the NCAA Division III tournament for the second consecutive year. Marywood will await the ECAC Tournament selection on Monday.

Cabrini's Avery Byrnes threw a no-hitter in the opening game. Byrnes struck out 11 batters. She allowed just one walk and two hits-batsmen.

In the second game, the Cavaliers took advantage of defensive miscues. Cabrini scored four runs in the top of the second inning.

Emma McNally was the lone Marywood batter with a multi-hit effort. She was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Brooke McKay hit a solo home run to straight center field in the seventh. The roundtripper marked the second of her career with both coming in Atlantic East Conference tournament play.

Marywood had a bit of bad luck on its side in back-to-back innings. In the second inning with two runners on base, Jessica Hanley rocketed a liner to third that the fielder immediately threw out the trailing runner for a double play. In the bottom of the third, Hamm's scorcher down the opposite field line met the glove of the first baseman for an immediate double play.

The Pacers showed life in the bottom of the fourth. Ashdon Clark singled up the middle, and Para reached on an error by the shortstop. A Sam Baltrusaitis single to right field scored Clark for the Pacers' first run of the game. Byrnes returned to the bump and forced a pair of strikeouts to leave two runners stranded.
