Marywood Splits with Monarchs Ahead of Atlantic East Playoffs

Wilkes-Barre Twp., Pa. — Marywood University closed the door on a second King's College comeback to secure a split Tuesday in non-conference softball action. The Pacers held on to a 6-4 win in the nightcap after a Monarchs' seventh-inning comeback put them on top 3-2 in the opener.

Emma McNally went 3 for 3 with three RBIs. McNally also had a stolen base, double and a walk.
 
Samantha Baltrusaitis went 2 for 4 with two runs and a double. Mara Hamm put down two sacrifice bunts and reached on a walk.
 
Hamm struck out six to earn her 10th victory of the season. Hamm allowed four earned runs and six hits.
 
Like the first game, King's put in a late charge with four unanswered runs in the last two innings. Kara Krouse drove in her sister Kiersten Krouse to put the Monarchs within two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Hamm struck out Leanna Rinaldi swinging to finish off the victory.
 
Marywood took an early lead in the second inning. McNally singled to center field, and Baltrusaitis scored on an error.
 
The Pacers put together a five-run fifth inning. Abbey Stalter led off with a walk. Hamm moved her to second place with a bunt. Emily Rose sprayed a single to left field, and Ashdon Clark singled through the right side to double up the Pacers' lead. Tori Para hit a double to increase the lead. McNally cleared the bases with a bases-loaded double that gave Marywood a 6-0 advantage.

The Monarchs came back to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
 
McNally was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a double. Para and Clark each finished with a pair of base hits.
 
Emily Rose hit a triple, and Marissa Gregory saw two walks.
 
Gregory suffered her first loss since Spring Break. She allowed three earned runs in 6 1/3 innings. Gregory struck out five.
 
The game stood scoreless until Marywood plated two in the sixth inning. Clark hit a leadoff single to right field. Tori Para moved pinch runner Priscilla Grill to second. Baltrusaitis hit a sacrifice bunt to put a pair of runners in scoring position. Grill tallied the first run of the game on a wild pitch. McNally singled to left field to take a 2-0 lead.
 
It was the first time the two programs played in more than 16 seasons.
 
Marywood will travel to the Atlantic East Conference playoffs this weekend. The third-seeded Pacers will compete in the Marymount pod on Friday.
