Marywood Falls to Penn College in ECAC Final

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University lost to top-seeded Penn College of Technology in the ECAC Division III Softball Championship. Penn captured the ECAC title in shutout fashion with a 6-0 defeat of the Pacers. The Pacers close out the year at 27-18.

Penn's Mackenzie Weaver was named Most Valuable Player for her performance in the tournament. In two starts in the circle, she tallied 14 innings, no runs, 16 strikeouts, 10 hits, and two walks to post a 2-0 record.  Against Marywood, she allowed five hits over seven innings while striking out five.

The Wildcats got on the board in the bottom of the first when it sent three runs across the plate on four hits. It all started when Jordan Specht doubled to center with one out. She later moved to third when Lexi Snyder singled through the left side. Snyder wasn't planning to stay long at first as she stole second to put herself in scoring position. Both runners scored to make it 2-0 when Ivvy Morder singled to center. Following a foul out to the first baseman for the second out of the inning, Hailey DeBrody's RBI single to right-center allowed Morder to score to make it 3-0 before the frame ended.

Marywood left eight runners on base for the contest. The Pacers loaded the bases in the first inning with a leadoff hit by Abbey Stalter, followed by an Ashdon Clark single and a Sam Baltrusaitis hit by a pitch. The Wildcats forced a fielder's choice to third base to get out of the jam. The Pacers put runners on the corners in the third inning but the Wildcats got the final out to ground out to the pitcher.

Penn added some insurance in the bottom of the fourth when it pushed three more runs across on three hits and a pair of walks to make it a 6-0 game.

The Wildcats held Marywood to two base runners for the remaining three innings to hold on to the lead and secure the victory.

Penn's Specht, Hurst, and Snyder combined going 6-for-11 with three RBIs, three runs scored, two doubles, and a walk on the day.

Clark led the Pacers at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double. She finished with the team's only extra-base hit in the contest.

Sam Ferrara pitched two scoreless innings for the Pacers.
