Women's Soccer Battles No. 16 Scranton in 4-1 Loss

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University pressured No. 16 University of Scranton in a 4-1 loss Wednesday in non-conference women's soccer. The Pacers were within a goal until the 56 minutes into the match.

Riley Mulherin scored the Pacers' lone goal of the game. Kate Kollar-Dye delivered a ball forward from mid-field. Mulherin broke into the open field and delivered a shot underneath the diving goalkeeper's stretch into the right side of the goal. Mulherin's goal trimmed the score to a 2-1 deficit.

From there, the Pacers played an evenly contest game for the remainder of the half, pressuring their nationally ranked crosstown foe. Sarah Kretchmer headed a pass to the top left that was brilliantly stopped by Nicole Olson. Later in the 41st minute, Sam Dammers delivered two shots, the latter of which was saved Olson.

Scranton scored 21 seconds into the game. Niamh Healy converted a shot from 15 yards out on an Emily Bannon ball delivered from the right side. In the 10th minute, Bannon delivered a ball from the right sideline to Emily Tantala that was shelved into the right side of the net 20 yards away.

Mary Haggerty buried a shot past Talerico on a Healy assist in the 56th minute to give Scranton a cushion. Tantala added a goal when she followed through on a Bannon cross.

Victoria Talerico made her first appearance since the 2021 season, making seven saves.

Scranton's Bannan had three assists. Tantala scored twice, and Healy added a goal and an assist.

Marywood will take on Eastern University on Saturday at 11 a.m.
