Pacers Push Past Penn State Hazleton in Home Opener

Bivins posts 19 points

Scranton, Pa. — The Marywood University men's basketball team played their first home game of the season on Wednesday night as they hosted a non-conference matchup with Penn State Hazleton (3-2). The Pacers (2-1) came out victorious in the exciting back-and-forth affair, as they defeated the Nittany Lions 71-68. 

The Pacers dominated the first half of play, outscoring the Nittany Lions by seven and taking a 32-25 lead into the locker room. 

Penn State Hazleton did not go away easy, they clawed their way back into the game to eventually tie it up with under five minutes to play. 

The teams went back and forth, with a minute left, the Nittany Lions hoisted a three to be down by a point. 

Shilo Bivins iced the game for the Pacers, going 2-2 at the charity stripe with 13 seconds left. This put Marywood up by three, in the handful of seconds left the Nittany Lions missed a three pointer and the Pacers walked away with the 71-68 victory.

As a team, Marywood shot 28-67 (41.8%) from the field in total. The Pacers also went 10-29 (34.5%) from beyond the arc and 5-6 (83.3%) at the free-throw line. 

The Nittany Lions fared a bit better from the field, shooting 29-61 (47.5%) in total, while also going 6-18 (33.3%) on three-point attempts and 4-4 (100%) from the stripe. 

Bivins led Marywood with 19 points, shooting 8-9 on the night. 

Penn State Hazleton's Dante Harward led all scorers with 21 points.  

The Nittany Lions won the rebound battle 36-33. 

Corey Perkins led the Pacers with seven rebounds and also tallied seven assists. 

Cole Johnson posted 10 points for Marywood.

Marywood will travel to Keystone College for their next matchup on Tuesday.
