Pacers Open Season with 32 Point Win

Marywood downs Bryn Athyn 88-56, faces Scranton Saturday at 4:00 pm

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University men's basketball opened their regular season with a 88-56 win over Bryn Athyn College Friday evening at the John Long Center on the campus of The University of Scranton. The Pacers will face the host Royals Saturday at 4:00 pm in the title game of the Hilton Scranton Invitational.

Marywood (1-0) got double digit performances from Trevor Seitz (13) and Michel Lofin (11), and got scoring from 15 of 19 players on the night. Seitz's 13 were a game-high. Marywood hit just over 50% of their shots from the floor but just 29% from behind the arc. The Pacers were 11 of 12 from the free throw line. 

Half of Marywood's points came in the paint, and the Pacers converted 20 points off 12 Bryn Athy turnovers. Marywood's bench outscored that of Bryn Athyn's 49-27. Only Will Little reached double digits for Bryn Athyn as he scored 10.

Marywood built a 10-point lead midway through the first half and extended that to 14 by the break (36-22). The Pacers continued to stretch their lead in the second half as they outscored Bryn Athyn 52-34 in the frame.

Scranton (1-0) was a 44-point winner over Medgar Evers, advancing to the title game with a 91-47 victory. The Royals got game-high performances of 16 points from both Jon Spatola and Will McLoughlin. 

Saturday's game will mark the first meeting between the two cross-town schools since November 25, 2003 when the Pacers pulled off a stunning 73-72 overtime win over the Royals on a buzzer beater.
