Marywood Knocks Down Monarchs, Improves to 9-4

Olivia Ciullo nets a double-double

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. -- The Marywood University women's basketball starting lineup accounted for every point in a 51-38 victory over King's College on Monday. The Pacers surpassed last year's win total with their ninth victory of the season.

Olivia Ciullo posted a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Rachel McDonald also reached double figures for the third straight game with 13 points.

Megan Cavoli and Stephanie Klemick had nine and eight points, respectively. Mia Blume finished with six assists.

The Pacers defense held the Monarchs to single digits in the second, third and fourth quarters.

Trailing 12-11 heading into the second quarter, Ciullo gave the Pacers the lead when she stole the ball and was fouled on her way to the basket. Ciullo made both free throws to give the Pacers the lead. After the Monarchs' Lauren Casey made one of two free throws, Blume hit a 3-pointer to supply Marywood with a 16-13 lead.

The Pacers proceeded to go on a 13-point run that concluded with a Ciullo jumper to take a 26-13 advantage. Alli Lindsay's fastbreak layup gave the Monarchs their first field goal of the second quarter with 2:18 remaining.

Marywood's lead shrunk to seven on Lauren Casey's layup with just under minutes to go. Blume responded with a layup in the paint. McDonald hit a basket following a team turnover. Klemick stole a ball at midcourt and took it to the house for a wide-open fastbreak layup to bring Marywood's lead back to double digits.

Marywood shot 33.9 percent from the field to the Monarchs' 27.7 percent mark. The Pacers forced 19 Monarchs turnovers and committed just seven.

The Pacers are idle until after the Christmas break. Marywood travels to Nashville to take on Mount Aloysius College and Illinois College.
