Women's Lacrosse Escapes Dolphins, 16-14

Three Pacers finish with hat tricks

Riverdale, N.Y. -- Marywood University outlasted College of Mount Saint Vincent for a 16-14 victory Tuesday in non-conference women's lacrosse action. The Pacers never trailed throughout the contest. 

Avery Meighan tied a school single-game record with six assists. She added two goals for eight points. Meighan matched Diana D'Achille (2011), Natalie Burke (2016) and Kayla McCabe's (2023) school record. Meighan also contributed eight draws and three caused turnovers.

Three Pacers finished with hat tricks. Olivia Stollsteimer, Natalie Yilanjian and Emily McLaughlin each finished with three goal performances. 

Kaitlyn Smith had four points with two goals and two assists. She added eight draw controls.. 

The Dolphins' Alicia Rodriguez scored eight goals and three assists for 11 points. 

Jenna Scala made 11 saves for the win. 

Marywood outshot Mount St. Vincent by a 42-25 margin. The Pacers were 16 of 19 on clear attempts and won 20 of 33 draw controls. 

The Pacers (3-4) rushed out to a 4-1 lead early in the game. The Pacers killed a penalty down two players over a five-minute stretch. Yilanjian scored three of the Pacers' first five goals. Her woman-down goal supplied the Pacers with a 5-2 advantage with 1:45 left in the opening stanza. 

The Dolphins (1-3) brought the game within one in the third quarter. Macey Forg scored an unassisted goal with 3:09 to put the Dolphins within one (11-10). Meighan and Kortney Harry scored back-to-back goals within 14 seconds. 

Smith's goal from Meighan gave Marywood a 16-12 lead with 1:56 remaining in the contest. Alicia Rodriguez scored back-to-back goals with 19 and 11 seconds left, respectively. Rodriguez won the final draw but the Pacers held the Dolphins without a shot. 

Marywood will take on Wilson College on Tuesday, March 19.
