Softball Drops Final Two Games in Florida

Clermont, Fla. – The Marywood University softball team closed out their trip in Florida by dropping two games. Marywood fell to Washington College (Md.) in game one and dropped game two in a neck-and-neck battle with Catholic University of America. 

Game One: Washington (Md.) 3, Marywood 0

The Shorewomen got out to an early 2-0 start when Jenna Harper hit a sacrifice fly followed by a reach on error playing the second run. Washington was able to score again in the fourth with an unearned run crossing the plate on a Pacers error. 

Emma McNally got the lone hit for the Pacers. 

Mikayla Badner took the loss for the Pacers. She allowed three hits, one earned run, and five walks. Badner tallied two strikeouts. 

Brynn Balliet records her fourth win for the Shorewomen allowing one hit, one hit by pitch, and four walks. She struck out eight. 

Jess Plunkett came in for relief for the Pacers tallying two innings with one walk, and one hit batter. She recorded two strikeouts. 

Game Two: Catholic 3, Marywood 2

In the first, Kat Davis led off the inning with a single and eventually scored on an error by the center fielder to put the Pacers ahead 1-0. 

The Cardinals got on the board in the top of third with a RBI single to left field. 

Marywood was able to respond back in the bottom of the third when Lauryn Notari hit a sacrifice fly to plate Priscilla Grill

Catholic in the top of the sixth inning jumped ahead on a home run by Katie Scolese. The Cardinals were able to hold the Pacers through the seventh and secure the 3-2 win. 

Marissa Gregory took the loss for the Pacers, falling to 3-2 overall. She yielded five hits, three earned runs, and two walks. She struck out nine. 

Catholic's Justina Benvenuto got the win pitching three innings with no hits, walks, or runs allowed. The only blemish was a hit batter. Alexa Wienclaw got the save for the Cardinals. 

The Pacers will travel home and are slated to take on Clarks Summit Wednesday.
