Pacers Stride Into Atlantic East Semis with Win over Griffins

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University advanced to the Atlantic East Conference women's lacrosse semifinals with a 22-12 win over Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday. The third-seeded Pacers will travel to No. 2 Marymount University on Wednesday afternoon. 

Avery Meighan set the school single-season points record by adding 12 points to her season total. Meighan scored six goals and six assists to increase her total total 113 points on the 2024 campaign. She also contributed four caused turnovers, three ground balls, and three draw controls. 

Both Olivia Stollsteimer and Tori Wilson had career-high offensive outings. Stollsteimer scored six goals, and Wilson totaled five goals. Wilson also produced a career-high seven ground balls. 

Kaitlyn Smith netted a hat trick. She also set a career-high with 17 draw controls. 

Grace Kelley scored a goal and an assist for two points. 

Alli Duncan and Kat Einodshofer produced the first points of their career. Duncan scored a goal, and Einodshofer assisted a late goal. Colleen O'Brien had two caused turnovers, and Kate Kollar-Dye caused one turnover. 

Kortney Harry made eight saves to go 2-0 on the season. She caused a pair of turnovers and picked up three ground balls. 

Gwynedd Mercy's Kristin Varilla produced five goals and an assist with six draw controls. Caroline Cleary had five assists. 

Marywood outshot the Griffins by a 46-32 margin. It had a 26-24 edge on ground balls and won 22-14 in draw controls. 

After the Pacers scored the first two goals of the game, the Griffins scored four straight. Rebecca Gordon's goal with 4:42 left in the opening stanza gave the Griffins a 4-2 lead. Back-to-back woman-down goals from Meighan and Stollsteimer supplied the Pacers with a 6-4 lead.

Marywood went into halftime with an 8-6 lead on a Smith unassisted goal with 1:39 left in the half. 

The Pacers scored six of out of seven goals to flirt with the running clock on Wilson's goal at 5:43 (15-8). The Griffins closed the third period with three unanswered goals. Gordon's clear from Clear put the Griffins within four (15-11) heading into the final period. 

Marywood outscored the Griffins 7-1 in the fourth quarter. Wilson and Duncan opened the peiod with goals in the opening two minutes. 

It marks the Pacers' 15th consecutive victory over the Griffins.
