Pacers Win One Against Centenary, Forces Game Three in Atlantic East Championship

Para hit the go-ahead RBI single

Hackettstown, N.J. – After a delayed beginning to the Atlantic East Conference Championship series, the Marywood softball team played the first two games of their three game set against top seeded Centenary. The No. 3 Pacers split on the day with the Cyclones, dropping the first game 5-4 on a walk-off, before picking up a 3-1 win in game two.

As the Pacers evened the series at one game a piece, they look to grab the series victory tomorrow as the teams clash for the rubber match. The winner of Sunday's game will be crowned AEC champion and will continue onto the Division III softball national championship tournament.

Game Two: Marywood 3, Centenary 1

The Cyclones opened game two with a run in the bottom half of the first inning, grabbing an early 1-0 lead on an RBI double to the left center gap.

Both teams were then held scoreless through the next three innings, with the next run coming in the fifth, scored by the Pacers.

This Marywood run came on a Kat Davis single in the top half of the fifth, plating Renee McDonald to knot the game up at 1-1. Tori Para followed that up with an RBI single of her own to bring in Alex Dusman. The Pacers grabbed their third and final run of the inning, and the game, as Davis was able to cross on a wild pitch, bringing the score to 3-1.

Offensively, the Pacers combined for eight hits. McDonald and Davis each had two hits in the affair.

Para and Davis recorded the Marywood RBIs.

Sam Ferrara (9-6) hurled a complete game for Marywood, securing the win in the 3-1 victory. Ferrara allowed only one unearned run on three hits, walking two and striking out two.

Game One: Centenary 5, Marywood 4

The Pacers jumped out to an early lead in the top half of the first inning, netting three runs. Emma McNally blasted a three-run homer, scoring both Para and Marley Sarafinko to go up 3-0.

In the bottom half of the same inning, the Cyclones managed to get one back on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.

Centenary grabbed another run in the home half of the second inning, thanks to an RBI single up the middle.

In the top of the third, Marywood added a run to extend the lead to 4-2. McNally pocketed another RBI, bringing in Para on a double down the right field line.

The Pacers would take this lead through the next four innings and into the bottom of the seventh.

With their backs against the wall, the Cyclones went station to station on a single that brought in one to make it 4-3. Another Centenary run would then score on an infield fly to the shortstop, tying the game. The Cyclones ended up winning the game on a walk-off single to center, downing the Pacers 5-4.

Marywood had nine hits in the game, with McNally, Para, and Sarafinko collecting two hits a piece.

McNally brought in all four runs for the Pacers.
