Marywood Sweeps Gwynedd Mercy, Rutgers-Newark

Pacers win 11th straight match

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University volleyball extended its winning streak to 11 matches with a sweep over Gwynedd Mercy University and Rutgers-Newark. The Pacers improve to 18-1 overall. 

Match 1: Marywood 3, Gwynedd Mercy 0

The Pacers opened their Atlantic East Conference volleyball season with a 3-0 victory over the Griffins. Marywood won by 25-22, 25-14, 25-17 scores. 

Carolina Samaniego had a team-best 15.5 points with 13 kills. She had a .393 attack percentage. She added 11 digs.

Taylor Hallam totaled 10 kills and two block assists with a .350 hitting percentage. 

Ayla Bransford contributed 34 assists. 

Three Pacers totaled double-double defensive efforts. Catie Woolf had 12 digs, and Andrea Fraga had 10 digs. 

Fraga added four aces. 

Gwynedd Mercy's Kate Etter had 13 kills. Charlotte Pugh reached the 1,000th Dig Club with 13..

Match 2: Marywood 3, Rutgers-Newark 0

Marywood defeated the Scarlet Raiders by 25-11, 25-11, 25-16 scores. The Pacers shot .235 for the match. 

Hallam had a match-high 13 points on eight kills, four total blocks, and two aces. 

Marywood had three players with eight kills. Ryleigh Hart had a .375 attack percentage, and Carolina Samaniego had a .130 hitting mark. 

Libby Zick registered three aces and 10 assists. Bransford had 14 assists. 

Woolf had a team-high nine digs. 

Marywood had 52 points to Newark's 21. 

Angelyse Orellana had nine assists for Rutgers-Newark. Jaedyn Simba-Malasarte had 11 digs. 


Marywood hosts Cairn University on Wednesday.
