Pacers Script Three in Second Half for AEC Comeback Win

Marywood stays undefeated in conference play

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University field hockey scored three unanswered goals in the second half to come back from a two-goal halftime deficit. The Pacers remain undefeated in Atlantic East Conference play with a 3-2 victory over Neumann University.

Trailing by a 2-0 deficit, the Pacers exorcised their third-quarter demons with two goals in less than a three-minute span.

In the 36th minute, Brooke Barwick put Marywood on the scoreboard. Dariane Jones fed Barwick a pass into the middle with a defender on her back. Barwick turned and fired a shot into the cage for the goal.

Less than three minutes later, Jones scored on a penalty corner. Barwick delivered a shot that forced a diving save by the Neumann keeper. Jones pounced on the left corner to collect the rebound and deliver a shot for an equalizer.

Jones added the game-winning goal just 40 seconds into the fourth quarter. Barwick sent a cross the entire length of the cage for Jones to cherry-pick a one-timer on the far side.

Jones played a part in all three scores with two goals and an assist. Barwick had a goal and an assist.

Marywood keeper Bre Marchiano recorded four saves for the victory. Neumann stopper Caley Gee had a dozen saves.

The Knights' Cadence Conti tallied a goal and an assist. Gabriella Cappelli had one goal, and Meghan Sheldrick recorded a defensive save.

Marywood (7-8, 2-0 AEC) doubled the Knights 26-13 in shots with a 16-6 advantage in shots on target. Both teams had 11 corners.

In the second half, Marywood outshot Neumann 14-2 with a 7-3 advantage in corners.

Marywood travels to Immaculata University on Wednesday in a rematch of last year's Atlantic East title game.
