Women's Soccer Secures Sixth-Straight No. 1 Seed

Marywood wins 13th consecutive game

Brooklyn, N.Y. — Marywood University punched its sixth-straight No. 1 seed in the Atlantic East Conference women's soccer playoffs with a 5-1 win over Pratt Institute on Saturday. The Pacers won their 13th consecutive game.

The Pacers (15-1, 6-0 AEC) have won the top seed in the conference playoffs every year during the decade.

Caroline Walters finished with three assists, and Samantha Dias scored a brace.

Bryn Stiles, Rylee Alston and Bella Wright each had a goal for the Pacers.

Stiles broke the stalemate in the 20th minute. Caroline Walters intercepted a Pratt goal kick at midfield. Walters sent a through pass to Stiles for a quick bending shot inside the right post.

In the 33rd minute, Alston added her second goal of the season. On a corner kick from the right side, the ball bounced inside the 6-yard line into traffic. Alston poked it in from the far side.

Dias closed out the first and opened the second half with a goal. A long ball by Carly Walters set up a run for Dias up the left side. Dias beat a defender on a 1v1 with a high shot over the keeper's reach in the 42nd minute. Caroline Walters' shot in the 59th minute was saved by the Pratt keeper, and rebounded by Dias into the net.

A mere 17 seconds later, Kat Thompsen ended the clean sheet threat with a Pratt goal. She scored on a free kick from 40 yards out. The shot was initially saved by the goalkeeper off the left post and trickled into the right side before Emma Pratt could tap it in.

Wright capped the Pacers' scoring in the 68th minute. Alston fed a give-and-go to Caroline Walters in the corner. Walters sent a long cross that was back-heeled in softly at the top of the 6-yard line.

Marywood tripled the Cannoneers 21-7 in shots with an 11-6 advantage in shots on target. The Pacers outnumbered the Cannoneers 13-2 in corner kicks.

Genevieve Morrison made five saves in the win.

The Pacers travel to Immaculata University on Wednesday. Marywood will host the Atlantic East semifinal against the No. 4 or 5 seed on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
