Volleyball's Rally Comes Up Short in Five-Set Loss to Knights

Taylor Hallam finishes with 14 kill and .419 hitting percentage

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University volleyball rallied back to force extra points in five sets in a loss to Neumann University on Wednesday in Atlantic East Conference action. The Pacers fell by a 3-2 decision. 

Neumann defeated the Pacers by 25-19, 25-23, 18-25, 17-25, 18-16 scores. 

Facing match point at a 14-9 deficit in the fifth set, Marywood won five straight points on Carolina Samaniego serves. Genevieve Pollock had three consecutive kills, and Hallam tied the match at 14-14. Marywood took a 16-15 lead on an attack error. Neumann closed out the match on three straight points with a Julia Solomon ace on match point. 

Marywood was led by both Taylor Hallam and Genevieve Pollock's 14-kill performances. Hallam had five blocks (two solo, three assists) and a .419 hitting percentage. 

Carolina Samaniego had a double-double of 13 kills and 17 digs. Ryleigh Hart tallied 11 kills and two block assists. 

The Pacers' Ayla Bransford totaled 42 assists to complement six aces and nine digs. 

Defensively, Marywood had 19 digs from Catie Woolf. 

Marywood shot .258 to the Knights' .175. Neumann had 15 aces to the Pacers' 10. 

The Knights' Julia Solomon had 15 kills. Melissa Eddy finished with 13 kills. Hannah Strohm led with 30 digs. 

Marywood travels to Pratt Institute on Saturday at 1 p.m.
