Scranton, Pa. — Top-seeded Marywood University women's soccer was eliminated by fifth-seeded Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday in the Atlantic East Conference semifinals.
Anna Nicosia's strike late in the first half lifted the Griffins to a 1–0 upset over Marywood at Pacers Turf Field. Nicosia converted a throw-in from Samantha Winco in the 42nd minute, slotting a 15-yard shot inside the left post for the game's only goal.
Despite relentless pressure from the Pacers, Marywood (16–2) couldn't find the equalizer. The Pacers outshot the Griffins 31–5 and held a commanding 19–0 edge in corner kicks, but both Gwynedd Mercy goalkeepers—Natalie Gablein in the first half and Madisson Ronn in the second—combined for seven saves in the shutout.
Marywood keeper Genevieve Morrison faced only two shots on goal, stopping one.
Britlyn Higgins and Carly Walters led the Pacers with multiple shots on frame, while Mia Menzzasalma picked up a late yellow card in the 86th minute as Marywood pressed forward.
The win sends Gwynedd Mercy (11–8–1) to the Atlantic East championship match, while Marywood's unbeaten conference run ends in heartbreak.
