Men's Basketball Opens Up Season With Win Over Clarkson

Loftin puts up 23 points

Rochester, N.Y. — The Marywood University men's basketball team opened up the season against Clarkson, Friday afternoon. In a come-from-behind battle, the Pacers walked away with their first win of the season, defeating the Golden Knights, 72-68. 

Marywood see-sawed with Clarkson in the first half, as the Golden Knights took a 40-33 lead into halftime. 

The Pacers chipped away in the final five minutes of the game. Down 54-64, Marywood began their comeback. 

A layup from Andrew Quinn was followed by three pointers from Joe Macciocco and Austin Bausman. 

Marywood eventually knotted it up, 64-64 with a layup from Michel Loftin. 

The Pacers ran with the newly-found momentum, ending the game on a 18-4 run, winning 72-68. 

Loftin led the Pacers offense tonight, collecting 23 points. 

Macciocco (13) and Bausman (10) also scored in the double-digits. 

Shilo Bivins, Bausman, and Loftin each had six boards apiece. 

Noah Perry had five rebounds for the Pacers.  

The Pacers overall shot 25-61 (41.0 percent) from the field, 12-36 (33.3 percent) from three, and 10-13 (76.9 percent) on free throws. 

Clarkson also went 25-61 (41.0 percent) from the field, 12-31 (38.7 percent) from beyond the arc, and 6-12 (50.0 percent) from the charity stripe. 

The Pacers outrebounded the Golden Knights, 40-37. 

Marywood will face the winner of Nazareth and Medgar Evers on Saturday.
