CHAMPIONS! | Pacers Beat Neumann 3-0 to Win Back-to-Back Atlantic East Conference Championships

Dariane Jones named Most Valuable Player

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University repeated as Atlantic East Conference Field Hockey champions with a 3-0 victory over Neumann University on Saturday. 

The Pacers have won back-to-back conference championships — its third championship since joining the Atlantic East. The Pacers raised the trophy at the end of the shutout, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. 

Dariane Jones was selected the Atlantic East Tournament Most Valuable Player. Jones scored a pair of goals.  

Brooke Barwick added a goal and an assist for the Pacers.

The first period was a stalemate. Between the two teams, there were only three shots and just one penalty corner. 

Marywood drove in its first goal in the 29th minute off a penalty corner. Brooke Barwick spotted Jones near the edge of the cage, giving the Pacers a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime. 

The third period was heavily in favor of the Knights as Neumann had five corner opportunities. The Marywood defense was stellar with Bre Marchiano making three saves and Hanna Gardner tallying a defensive save to hold the Pacers 1-0 lead heading into the final period. 

To start the fourth period, Neumann was quick to shoot. Gardner recorded her second defensive save of the game. 

In the 48th minute, Jones was fouled and awarded a penalty stroke. She laced one in the upper right corner of the cage to extend the lead, 2-0. 

Barwick scored Marywood's third goal in the 58th minute. Barwick burried the ball into the back of the cage from 10 yards out. 

In total, the Pacers had 11 shots, with six being on target. 

The Knights had 10 shots, with seven on target. 

Neumann had seven penalty corners compared to Marywood's four. 

Bre Marchiano recorded the shutout for the Pacers, making five saves. 

Neumann's keeper Caley Gee, made three saves. 

It is Marywood's fourth conference championship in program history. 

With the victory, Marywood receives a bid to the NCAA DIII Field Hockey Championship. The selection show is Sunday evening.
