Marywood Locks Up No. 2 Seed with Win over Eagles

Pacers honor Leah Zambetti and Julia Strohm

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University locked up the No. 2 seed in the Atlantic East Conference volleyball tournament with a 3-1 win over Saint Elizabeth College on Saturday. The Pacers finish their regular season with a 24-4 overall and 5-2 conference record. 

The Pacers will host third-seeded Immaculata University on Thursday at 7 p.m.

It is Marywood's best postseason seeding in 32 years. The Pacers were the top seed in the 1993 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference — their last conference championship season. 

The Pacers won by scores of 19-25, 25-18, 25-11, 25-19. 

Marywood honored seniors Leah Zambetti and Julia Strohm prior to the game. Zambetti had a season-high 11 kills with a .381 hitting percentage. Strohm had seven digs. 

Genevieve Pollock finished with 12 kills and a .207 attack percentage. Taylor Howard totaled 10 kills with a .600 hitting mark. 

Defensively, Catie Woolf had 18 digs. Carolina Samaniego produced 13 digs. 

Ayla Bransford tallied a double-double with 46 assists and 10 digs. Bransford moves up to fourth all-time in single-season assists with 841.

Taylor Hallam led the Pacers with 14 points. She had eight kills, four aces, and three total blocks. 

The Eagles' Sienna Volpe had nine kills and 10 digs. Alyssa Wells totaled 17 digs. 

Marywood shot .259 for the match, compared to the Eagles' .113 mark. The Pacers had a 66-47 advantage in digs and a 55-30 edge in assists. 

The Pacers look to reach their first conference championship final in 32 seasons on Thursday.
